PEACH PIE 🌱
I made a vegan peach pie! I used a recipe from Anna Banana, adding rose and fresh thyme into the crust for some herbal, floral goodness. But what's more important than a delightful summer peach pie?
Farmers. For decades America has taken advantage of some of our most essential workers. The job of picking fruit and veg is often thankless, and while we all eat, we don't all take the time to consider federal protections (that are enforced) for our farmers. Our countries embarrassing struggle with COVID-19 would be infinitely worse if a food shortage suddenly ransacked the country. Thankfully some people tirelessly toil fields 6 feet apart, in the hot sun, to make sure we have food on our table. But what are we doing for them? We have failed to give the Latinx farming community adequate healthcare, masks, sick leave, and hazard pay for their invaluable efforts.
HIPgives is an organization that helps the Latinx community across America. I spent some time this week looking at better ways to improve the Latinx farming community, and they are such an excellent resource. They are rated on charity org navigator as well so you can give in good conscience if you can't give that's okay too! Take some time to research on your own to see how you can help the people feeding America.
